Press Releases KUMD 103.3 FM goes 24 hours
KUMD 103.3 FM kicks off the new decade by expanding its broadcast day to 24 hours, beginning this week. This is the first time in its 53-year history that KUMD will offer non-stop broadcasting to its listeners. "We are very excited about being able to serve our listeners now 24-7. This is just one way to better serve our community," says Station Manager Vicki Jacoba. "Going 24 hours was one of many goals we set for ourselves last year. In the past 18 months we have made some spectacular strides to make our programming stronger. We have kept the best of the KUMD music programs, and have added 11 new programs to our line-up. Our listenership has grown considerably over the last year, and by going 24 hours, we believe it will broaden our audience base even more," continues Jacoba. KUMD relies heavily on community volunteers and UMD students to complete the on-air and promotional work force. The station has over 60 staff personnel with only seven fulltime paid staff. The station broadcasts with 95,000-watts of stereo sound all across the Northland, reaching listeners up to 100-mile radius from Duluth. KUMD's programming is also available live online, which attracts listeners from 41 different countries.
