NewPage announces new Duluth mill manager

2/3/2010

NewPage Wisconsin System Inc. in Duluth, Minnesota, a subsidiary of NewPage Corporation, announced Feb. 2 that John Bastian has been promoted to Duluth mill manager, effective February 15, 2010. The current Duluth mill manager Pat Moore has accepted the mill manager position at the NewPage Luke, Maryland mill replacing Gary Curtis who recently announced his retirement.

“John will be an excellent fit in the Duluth mill leadership position based on his experience with non-traditional work systems, his papermaking and business knowledge and his strong leadership skills,” said NewPage Vice President, Manufacturing Operations Mark Lukacs.

Bastian began his career at the Escanaba, Michigan mill in 1985. He also spent 15 years working in various manufacturing management roles at the Champion and then International Paper mill in Quinnesec, Michigan. He returned to the Escanaba mill in 2005 and has spent the last 5 years there as production manager.

Bastian holds a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota Duluth and a master’s degree from the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, WI..

Headquartered in Miamisburg, Ohio, NewPage Corporation is the largest coated paper manufacturer in North America, based on production capacity, with $4.4 billion in net sales for the year ended December 31, 2008.
